Finally, a lactation course designed just for us.

Lactation education specialized for the unique needs and scope of newborn care specialists—the first course of its kind!

No more piecing together vague lactation advice, trying to figure out how to make it work in your specific situation. Say goodbye to random courses and learning information that doesn't apply.

Your breastfeeding knowledge matters.

As newborn care specialists, we spend more time with new families than any other care providers. Because we're readily available, we tend to be the first professionals they ask for breastfeeding advice.

While it's important to refer out when necessary, it's helpful to have general knowledge for those pressing after-hours questions (when the lactation consultant is not available). Getting the right education is the key to ensure we don't unknowingly share information that's incorrect—or worse, harmful to the breastfeeding relationship.

That's where this course comes in!

FAQs

Is this a lactation consultant training?

No, consider this a continuing education course. Becoming a lactation consultant (or lactation counselor) requires a bigger investment of time and money. This course is meant to bridge the education gap for those who aren't yet on that path or aren't planning to pursue it.

Is this the same course offered through Summer’s Sleep Secrets?

Yep! You can purchase it on whichever site works best for you—the pay in full price is the same in both places. If you purchase on this site I make 100% of the sale price; if you purchase through the other site they keep a percentage.

What can I do after completing the course?

Put what you learned to use! Upon completion, you’ll be a “Breastfeeding-Friendly” NCS and you’ll also receive a badge you can put on your website. Tell prospective clients , educate them about “the tradeoff,” and get rave reviews knowing that you can help breastfeeding families make balanced choices, without judgment.

Is there a completion exam?

There will be! I’m still working on that.

What if I need additional support/advice for a specific client situation?

I offer consultations to postpartum care professionals and families. Students of the course get 10% off a 30-minute virtual consultation with me (and it’s a tax write-off!). Email me to schedule.

I am also working on a lactation knowledge bank where you can find information on common lactation questions and issues—planning to finish that in early 2023. Stay tuned!

"I don't like how lax you're being about the use of bottles/formula/sleep shaping for breastfed babies."

As a lactation consultant, I do believe that breastfeeding and shared sleep are the biological norms for humans. I also recognize that our current society is not set up to support those norms for many families due to lack of paid parental leave, inadequate postpartum support, and the incidence of mental health struggles.

In my work as a newborn care specialist, I witnessed firsthand that there's often a big difference between parents doing what various sources tell them is the "right" thing to do, and doing what gets them some desperately-needed sleep.

This course is intended to educate professionals who are in the trenches doing the work of supporting new families, in the middle of the night.

I’m not here to convince anyone to make a specific choice or to tell them that the parenting choices they make are right or wrong. I've made it my job to teach families how to work with whatever choices they’ve made, right where they are.
